About Sydney, Our Virtual Host City

A Real Welcome to LCN 2020, Virtually Hosted in Sydney

The 45th meeting of the LCN conference — LCN 2020 — was to be held in Sydney, Australia and they remain our virtual host as we will not hold a physical meeting this year due to COVID-19.

Located in the southeast part of the continent, Sydney is the capital of New South Wales. "Discovered" by Captain Cook in 1770, the city was founded as a British penal colony in 1788 until its incorpration in 1842. After the gold rush in 1851, Sydney was transformed by mass migration into one of the most international, cosmopolitan cities in the world, where more than 250 different languages are spoken here. Also known as the Harbour City, Sydney is the largest in Australia with an enviable reputation as one of the world's most beautiful and liveable cities. Brimming with history, nature, culture, art, fashion, cuisine, design, it is set next to miles of ocean coastline, sandy surf beaches, and beautiful mountains. The city is also home to the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge, two of the most iconic structures on the planet.
